Route Summary

1) This particular route outlines the many peninsulas and coves that are hidden along the south shore.

mbayWe begin in the town of Mahone Bay where we head south onto the beautiful coastline along the Mahone Bay shore. Be sure to stop by the Black Forest Restaurant which can be located along the road between Mahone Bay and Lunenburg and has some of the best German food in the area.

As we reach the first detour (which I strongly suggest you take) which takes you around the town of Lunenburg and down the peninsula along Lunenburg harbor. Unfortunately there is only one way down this part of the route so you will be forced to double back. However the views that can be found down here are well worth a second look.

glots2) The first resting point is in Lunenburg which is best known as the home of the sailing ship Bluenose. Lunenburg is also a Canadian heritage site and a beautiful old fishing village with a number of great places to eat and a good dozen great bed and breakfasts. One of my favorite restaurants in Lunenburg is The Grand Banker.

lburgAs we head out from the resting point we continue along the detour which takes us up a hill on the opposite side of Lunenburg showing a great view of Lunenburg docks. As we reach the main route we head south again soon arriving at our second short detour that takes us to 3)The Ovens camping and sea cave park. This stop isn't featured in the video but is a great place to spend the afternoon or the night.

The route connects with the La have river and begins what I consider one of the most interesting and visually wonderful roads in Nova Scotia. Unfortunately it basically serves no purpose other then to connect the very small town of Riverport to Bridgewater and Lunenburg which means it has been in disrepair for quite some time. Beside the actual road being not it's best I still think it's a great little run along the coast.

bwater4) The route ends in Bridgewater which is the relative commercial center for the Lunenburg County area. This is a great place to base your touring of any local areas.

This ends the east La have route tune in to the west La have route to explore more of the south shore.
